I'm bored so for fun I thought I'd start a list of tools and things that every studio must have. (Aside from the obvious gear and room treatments.) Feel free to add if you have any other suggestions:

Sharpies (lots!)
Masking Tape
Duct Tape
Electrical Tape
Paper and Pen
Recall Sheets
Playing cards (for dampening that pesky snare)
9V Batteries
Extra Guitar Picks and Strings

Soldering Gun
Loads of CD-R's
Loads of CD Cases
Flashlight
Cable Tester
Tuner
SPL Meter
BPM Counter
Power Strips
1/8 to 1/4 adaptors

."Shoot, with all that stuff, a feller could have himself a purty good weekend...." (who said it? Extra credit for the setting)

Heres some stuff not yet mentioned.....

Single Malt Scotch (I know that Blue was mentioned but its not a singlemalt)

Talent....yours and theirs

The Check...Up front

For overdub sessions I used to put up a TV and some video games

Slim Pickens. Dr. Strangelove. As he was examining the contents of the package of stuff that was in the B52 bomber in case of an emergency landing.

And ditch the duct tape and get some real gaffer tape for heaven sake.

OK... you're thinking ALL the essentials...

Of course there should be a few bottles of;
A decent cabernet.
A decent chablis
Maybe a zinfendel... or two
An exceptional Bourbon - Woodford Reserve is an excellent choice
Blue Sapphire
Stoly's for the fake Martini crowd
Any decent Vermouth
Olives
Grolsch
Pilsner Urquell
1.25's... unless you're a weenie who needs a 1.5
T1 access
You're own mail server
Gbit Network Backplane
Cable w/ON Demand billing and DVR
Connectors for all of the popular gaming systems
A Wii system

Yeah... there we go... the list is getting better...

Wow, this is getting pretty good!

I'd like to add a few more, now that I've been so inspired:

Pizza Pockets and other 30-second meals
White lithium grease
Candles placed AWAY from the acoustic foam
Some good herb (depending on who your client is, of course)
Guitar Hero II

Last but not least...a lava lamp or two.

Only essentials I've seen so far are enough mic cables and stands and a decent headphone amp...all the food I bought for the boys didn't get eaten..all they did was drink the beer. So, in addition to the appropriate amount of cables and stands, I would add some good beer. No Lager for us...we like it hoppy an full-flavored. ANDY

I NEVER worry about the beer. I live in the lap of BEER LUXURY here in the Great Northwest where the microbrews outnumber and outsell the regular stuff by a wide margin.

A close examination of the 'Beer Refrigerator' (yes kids, dadogg has a fridge JUST for the beer) reveals a half-rack of a sweet and great tasting Porter, a large Kerr jar full of a red ale, a few assorted bottles left over-re: an IPA, some fruit ales, an incredible roasted hops ale, and the regular Henry's.

Rice beer and standard lagers have to have some serious panache to make this ice box.

And dont get me started on the single malt scotch.

No 'peat' for me please.......highland or Jura only....thanx.
