Several years ago, I purchased an Aardvark Q10 for all my recording needs. I used this in conjunction with Cool Edit Pro / Adobe Audition until recently, and I have been very happy with the results. A few weeks ago, however, I bought a new computer, which came with Windows Vista, and my Aardvark will not function/install properly. Being a relatively old product, I'm not anticipating any updated drivers, either. So, it looks like I'm going to need a replacement...
Recording is just a hobby of mine, so I don't need much - one or two XLR inputs (1/4" would be a nice option) that record at a good quality and will play nicely with Vista. I don't need a lot of fancy features, basically stability, quality and compatibility are my big things. I'm not very in touch with the hardware of the music world, so if someone could make some recommendations, I would be most appreciative.

Firewire is the way to go. I would look at the Presonus Firebox
Firewire is the way to go. I would look at the Presonus Firebox $299. It has two mic/inst chanels and two inst channels. It also has Midi I/O for a keybd controler if you need it. Comes with Cubase LE which will do 48 trks. Presonus has kept the drivers up for Vista. The connection to the PC is through IEEE 1394 firewire port. If you don't have a firewire port you can add it with PCI card or cardbus if you have a laptop. Its a nice little setup pretty much good to go out the box.
Just a tip on compatibility you want to make sure that you have a TI chipset for the firewire as some of the other chipsets for the firewire port have given problems. You can look into compatibility at the Presonus site. I would recomend sending them an email with your PC Specs and software specs and they should be able to help you.
