Hi,

just stumbled upon this nice piece of DAC: ANDIAMO - MADI AD/DA Converter

Seems to be a well done converter. The specs look very promising and the price is very good as well (1.900,- EUR). :rolleyes:
They also make an AES version of it. :cool:

hmm, I hope this is what I've been waiting for? Looks like this is just being introduced: Specs look good and its exactly what I need for my MixDream and some. It tops out at 96k like Lavry converters which site okay with me. Any input from anyone that knows more about this company? Rainer?

Stephan Flock is a former RME engineer. Therefore, I suppose the sound will be good. Also, his team is rather experienced with MADI technology. If 96 kHz SR is good enough for you, then all I'd like to see is a coax AND an optical MADI I/O option.
The second ( both multi-voltage) powersupply is a nice thing to have, but aimes more towards broadcast use, as is the option for +18dBu / +24 dBu versions.
Stephan recommends a RME MADI card as interface to the computer for it. I am sure, when it hits the market, we will get a few user tests, soon. The street price should be under 1900 Euro +tax.

Am I fast, or what??

I thought you might be working for this company? I've done some research on them since your post. I'm hoping they are the new RME blazing the next generation. Why? I am weeks away from making a big decision that would be part of my new hybrid studio. I contacted the company and have received no reply.

Looking forward to more comments on this announcement and the quality of these converters.

ANDIAMO - 32 channel MADI AD/DA-Converter

I'm only needing 88.2 in high quality converters. Don't care to ever go to 196k at this stage. If the ANDIAMO - 32 channel MADI AD/DA-Converter does it as well as the Lynx Aurora series or RME ADi-8 QS , I would be very interested.
It appears to cost less than either Lynx or RME. Its under $3000 USD for 32 IO. Pretty sweet.
Somebody talk to me?

D.O.TEC ANDIAMO is a MADI AD/DA converter for 32 audio channels. Its sophisticated hardware design offers minimal dimensions and maximum reliability. Simultaneous conversion of 32 audio channels from analog to digital and from digital to analog in 1 HU make efficient use of valuable rackspace.

Quick overview

The front panel provides status LEDs for 32 all channels for a quick check of signal status (signal present, over) of all input and output channels.

Cascading

Bank selection allows to choose the processed audio channels of a MADI stream - 1 to 32 or 33 to 64. Cascade two units for conversion of up to 64 audio channels.

Safe operation
ANDIAMO offers highest reliability through two phase-redundant power supplies with inlets and switches on the rear panel.

Clocking

ANDIAMO can be clocked by wordclock, MADI input or internally. The system clock is provided at the wordclock output at any time.

I almost took the plunge for 2 ADI-8 QS . Maybe I will hear from them on Monday. I've sold one of my FF800 so I'm getting excited.

Rainer, how easy is it changing conversion rates with MADI compared to AES/EBU ? Is it as simple as opening/creating a new session and you are able to choose 44.1 or 88.2 without weird things happening?

Please, explane "changing conversion rates"...
Do you mean changing the samplerate from inside the software or MADI card
or an actual conversion of SR's, like from 96 to 44.1 kHz?

RME features SteadyClock which can generate the wordclock from the MADI signal ( incl. refresh-anti-jitter).
Also it has the regular WC I/O (comming from the house clock or the PC card / set by the DAW)
The SR can be changed like with any other device accepting WC.
I am not to fluent with MADI, since I don't have it in studio, yet, and the MADI with my DASH 3324S is
somewhat outdated. RME is by far superior ... Read this "MIDI Theory" pages by RME... good advice, there.

I was speaking with RME support yesterday and I may have misunderstood because it didn't make sense to me either. I'm not familiar with MADI so until I use something, have an issue and learn the fix, some things are always a bit cloudy until you are faced with a problem. It sounds like it is of no concern to me because I'm not using numerous converters. Support mentioned the difficulty ( can be tricky) changing rates and it was either that or sample rate. They said this wasn't an issue with AES/EBU like it was in MADI. I should have clarified more.
