turned on one of my Behringer Truth B2031A this morning and smoke poured out of the tweeters and now I have no high end on that side.
Was looking to replace them, maybe with the Tapco s8? Is there anything else that offers similar/better performance in the 300 pound price range maybe with a smaller footprint?
Also, does anyone know if this is a common problem or one that can be repaired easily? The speakers were placed indefinitely in my care by a Norwegian and if I can fix them it would be great.

Have checked with Behringer's repair centre and they have quoted me around 70 pounds for repair (not icluding getting the unit from Brighton to Liverpool!)
Seriously considering a new pair of tapco s8's right now, if I eve get any good at electronics I may be able to do something withthe old truths?

Chances are an internal amplifier "DC'd" and put a not-nice voltage to the tweeter. Simply replacing the tweet will probably not correct this.

I have no idea what Yamaha gear costs in the UK vs. the US, but I would suggest the Yamaha MSP5 as a replacement. Here in the States, they are about the same price as the S8. And I realize the woofer is bigger on the S8. But don't let size fool you (it did my ex!!!). NONE of those small boxes in that price range are going to have big, much less accurate, bass response. The Yamahas are used by many professional engineers in small editing suites. The mixes done on them are more likely to translate better to other systems than the S8s will. Anchors aweigh!!!
