Hey guys,
Ive been looking for a mixer. Durig my quest I came upon this used Alesis Studio 32 (16 channel in/out 8 xlr, and designed with studio monitoring needs in mind apparently) in superb condition, for about 299.00.. Anyone know how this would compare to a used Mackie in the same price range?

I need something pretty quick, and this seems like a cool little rig. However I would really like your thoughts on it.

Thank you!
Josh

There's a reason these LCBs (Little Chinese Boxes) go for so cheap. There is, IMHO, only one "compact budget mixer" and you spell it M-A-C-K-I-E. Better designed, better built, better headroom. I have been very disappointed in the quality of some of the recent Alesis gear since that DJ company (Numark?) took them over. I own some Alesis(not the mixers-I grabbed one at a NAAM show and shook it-it rattled!), and have not been happy with the reliability. Save your hard-earned $$$ and buy something that will serve you down the road.

If you probably need a cheap mixer that is disposable when it breaks then the Alesis will probably do it for you. Don't expect stellar performance or greater longevity and/or having all 16 inputs working simultaneously. Don't expect all volume controls to be quiet or switches to work reliably.

Learn what you can while using it and know that there are better ones out there to acquire when you financially can. Probably a reasonable tool to start learning with but don't expect it to sound like an API or Neve.

I'm cheap too

now what did I do it that piece of gum???
