Maybe they could come up with their own computer this time round. They might as well so they control the entire program.
But maybe the new CP will do a lot more with less. Maybe its going another direction sooner than we think. Maybe PC is looking better and Better.Somethings brewing, that's for sure.
This is exactly what happened to me when I invested $50.000 into a complete Avid studio with a new Mac, SCSI accel system to run 10,000 RPM cheetah drives at $2500 a pop and all the rest of the plugins and stuff that goes along with it. Next year Apple discontinued the Powermac and then AVID dropped the bomb never allowing me to upgrade. No support, thank you.:) that's life.
After reading into this rumor, I'd say the entire line is done just like before. Geez, and for those considering investing larger investments around this company, this might be of interest. Its why I'm so afraid to ever trust a company that controls so much of what I do. At least with modular, you can find solutions to keep from drowning.
Share holder don't care. The mobile industry is where the money is and I've been saying this for a few years now, Apple looks like a fast and growing mobile company to me. Maybe its no big deal but it certainly makes me question where Avid is going.

I hope they don't cut the Mac Pro. I've been telling myself that my next desktop would be a Mac and not having PCIe slots would not be a good thing. How would I upgrade to HDX? Seriously though, I would love one of those rigs. I suppose they are looking to promote Thunderbolt as the next platform for expansion but that means yet another box or that the gear I'm already accustomed to will become even more expensive.
If they're going to ditch the Mac Pro, they should at least consider opening up OSX to PCs....er.......legal Hackintosh's. I don't care if the support is limited as long as it's there. Even if they have to publish a supported hardware list. I'd spend $200 on OSX over a $300+ of Windows 8.

I've been working in an all Windows studio with Frankensteined PC's and after a facility move in the spring I had convinced the staff to migrate to Mac, now I'm not sure if we should. I guess I would still have the great hardware and could run windows on it if I had too. Ugghhh.

Go with the software you are going to be using. Example: If you are using Pro Fools, you best stay with Mac. If they are both going down, you might as well keep it together because the support will be strong as a pack.
It could be all propaganda, who knows.
Choose the software first, then the OS that works best. That's my advise.
