vs.

In the yellow trunks (see what I did there?)
KRK Rokit 5's (5 inch)

This was just a listening test. no mixing was involved. I listening to a variety of styles: Bob Marley, Enimem, The Beatles, Miley Cyrus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and some Miles Davis. Disclaimer, I have not really listened to music inquisitively on any other monitors than these two, and in no way consider myself a pro.

1. The first and most noticeable difference I noticed was the overall volume level. The KRK's were about 10 db's softer. Both input trims on were on factory 0. I assume this is just because it is that the 8 inch needs more power to drive it.

2. The next biggest difference I noticed was in the high-mids. The KRK's seemed fuller with more presence, without being as shrill or brittle as the Behringers. The KRK's also seem to have more depth concerning space effects like reverb.

3. Concerning bass: The Behringers had more low end. That being said, they sounded boxier compared to the KRK's, and the KRK's seemed more controlled, tighter and punchier. I guess this is to be expected because of the difference in the size of the speaker. I am most excited about this difference, because I have always had trouble getting the bass levels right in my mixes. I do know that my listening environment is not ideal, but it this difference is still encouraging.

4. Overall flatness across the spectrum. Compared to quality home stereo speakers, both the KRK and Behringers provide a decently flat rate response. The differ in some areas, but are similar enough.

These are just some of my amateur thoughts regarding these two models of speakers. Hopefully you guys find some use out of my review. It would be great if any of you can chime in with any further insight or discussion ideas. Thanks for listening!

Quote audiokid:
Rainer, You have been removed as a moderator (not Staff) on recording.org because you are an embarrassment for obvious reasons. NOTE: I don't have staff here.
You have now been blocked for continued childish behavior in the forums.
You know the rules. I suggest you stop coming here or behave yourself. You are posting your personal name on the forums and attaching slander to it.
Removing your slander has been a favour to you. Its not looking good on you.
The next time you hear from me it won't have the same tone.
Be warned.
Did you ever receive gear from CONEQ? [[url=http://[/URL]="http://www.realsoun…"]http://www.realsoun…[/]="http://www.realsoun…"]http://www.realsoun…[/]
Did you ever receive any perks as a moderator on recording.org?
I will take action if I learn you are pretending in anyway to be affiliated with recording.org.

Hey, Chris…
Don’t you think you suffer from a little attack of megalomania?
Who do YOU think, you are?
What makes you believe that I ever want to set foot into RO other than to annoy you?
Don’t do me favors in removing my true and honest opinions with my name attached to it.

And stop threatening me, otherwise MY tone will change!
You removed me without notice when I was 2 weeks absent due to a knee surgery. How can I have been an embarrassment.
If you want to see one, look in a mirror… or is it not allowed to express any other opinion than your misinformed renderings?
Or must a mod ask for leave papers to keep position?

What do you mean with “Did you ever receive perks... or gear from CONEQ??”
To your and everybody else’s information: I have never received anything from anybody connected with RO, not even a business connection was made….

In regards of
“I will take action if I learn you are pretending in anyway to be affiliated with recording.org.”
Just so much: At the moment I am busy sending out notes to anybody who might be interested in knowing that I am no longer affiliated with RO and why.
You would be surprised to how many companies I am well acquainted with.

Last, but not least: I am sorry to have used the term “Staff”…
I didn’t know that you would not grant the professional engineers and Moderators, who do the work for you, the title Staff.
What are those to you? Dog’s bodies??

Guten Tag… go away and don’t answer.

Both monitors are hardly usable for serious audio work.
I suggest to put the thread into Home Recording.

Here, in Pro Audio Monitor section, it is like discussing the specs of the cardboard packing of real studio monitors.

Did you do the comparison with the B 2 0 3 1 A's putting out a higher dB level? If so, it's much harder to make a good comparison. There's a well known and very simple psychoacoustic effect - louder=better. When testing audio components in a store, its a good idea to take along an SPL meter. That way you at least have a shot at getting the levels close. (Just a chance. Our ears are more sensitive than the resolution of an inexpensive meter like my Radio Shack.)

Rude Boy,

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, I am sure mods can move it wherever it serves best.

Bob,

I opened up the songs in my DAW. I found the 10 db difference by lowering a copy of each song to where they sounded similar in level, volume-wise. From reading these forums (zing!), I already knew that louder sounds better, so I went the extra step to compare them at the same volumes. Thanks for noticing!
