Grateful thanks for any help or insight on this matter ! I just built my own DAW system, AMD 1.7 ghz XP, SiS chipset, Win 98SE, Soundblaster Live!, Tascam US-428 (for 24 bit audio). The really annoying problem I am having is that there seems to be electonic noise "seemingly" coming from the computer into my mixer(similar to the little zipping noise you get when you move the mouse). This noise gets worse if I load any audio program like Sonar, or if I just let the computer run for a long time, but not sure what the symptoms are except I can totally disconnect the SB Live! output from the mixer and I still get it ! Moving the CPU right now is out of the question, would like to know what could be the source of the noise, and what can I do to eliminate it, I can hear it clearly in my recordings now.

Ohhhhh...the dreaded Sis chipset!!! That's your problem right there my friend!
When I first set out to build a DAW I got one with the Sis chipset and couldn't do diddly with it!! I changed motherboards with an intel chipset and it worked great!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I even tried it on my Tascam US428 and it did the same thing!!

Just out of curiosity, have you noticed any correlation between the noise and the cooling fan on the CPU starting and stopping?

Hi Soundman; Could be a part of it since it gets worse as the machine gets hotter, but it also goes away if I do not run any audio applications, then if I bring up Sonar, for instance, I get major digital squelch !!

I think you may be right because the only new component on this machine is the mobo, everything else was in there before. I don't know if you remember me, but I was also a Tascam beta tester (you, me and about seven other guys I think) for the US-428 and the US-244 !!! What ever happened to Daniel Keller ?? His name doesn't show anywhere in the Tascam forums. But yeah, I think it is the mobo, kinda sucks...
