ok i want to be able to record 8 to 16 mics simultaneously to my computer, if possible i would like to be able to do pre eqs and pans that are sent along with the audio to the computer via firewire or usb. Along with this i want to be able to control at least 4 earphones and 2 sets of monitors and sub and a talk back mic so basicaly a control room surface. and last but not least i want to be able to control Cubase sx3 with a controller so i can mix, eq, and do paramters for my effects. HOW WOULD I BE ABLE TO DO THIS (WHICH EQUIPMENT). Is there an all in one, or are would i have to buy seperate componets to be abel to do this.

I have a 1620 witht he firewire I/o card and love it so far....built in talkback with option to use ur own mic or the one built into board, has 4 sub outs, the firewire I/O card allows you to send 16 individual channels to ur comp, as well as recieve a stereo channel from the computer to the mixining board thru the control room outs for monitoring, the pre-eqs sound really nice with good control. only thing u'd really need is a headphone splitter to connect more headphones....

To make things easiest for you you might want to look at a device like the Tascam FW-1884 which will somewhat satisfy your input/output needs as well as give you a control surface to interface with Cubase. if you need/want more channels, it is expandable. EQ and panning and that sort of thing are all handled by Cubase.
You say you want a Sub output...I'm guessing a subwoofer? Unless you are mixing for something like 5.1 then the subwoofer can be part of your monitoring solution and only requires your stereo output. To be able to switch between monitors, you'll need to have some sort of switching device like the Presonus Central Station. Since you are just starting out, you may want to look for alternative cheaper or DIY solutions.
For your headphones, most headphone mixers are ok...yes even behringer will work for this, but if you want to bring it up a notch (BAMM!)look at the Mackie heaphone mixer HMX-56. It's nice if you have lots of input sources.
