I was looking into a few things. Is it possible to just use an Dual Ganged Audio Taper in between my DAW output and my active monitors. I am currently using a Behringer crap mixer to adjust control room monitoring levels and I hate the sound it gives my speakers. I was thinking about making a little box with inputs, outputs, and then wiring the Pot properly to just get a passive stereo attenuation knob. Would this actually work at all? Or am I just wasting my thoughts on this one?

I'm at least adequate at electronics and soldering, if not much better. Ive made all my own snakes, cables, some decent condenser mics and other things as well. I'm open to any suggestions and ideas. I actually welcome diy projects, and not only to save money. They are usually fun and help one self to learn more about things rather than just buying it.

Cool, ok so get some 0.1% surface mount resistors, or at least 1%. I would grab a meter and match them by hand. Resitors like:

Grab a Switch Like:

You want a switch that does both left and right at the same time So you a double pole (DP). You need a few postions maybe 12, so thats a DP12T

For values check out this site:
