Well, I've never heard of Dominator either but the dealer does sell and service some pretty high profile studios. Maybe its a Canadian knock off of those cables... or China.. hmm :-?

Buy in bulk and DIY. you can guarentee the quality and its way cheaper.

Is this for installed runs or cables that you will coil up? With a three foot sample you can judge things like shielding and flexibility. The question you can't answer with a new brand is how the plastic/vinyl will age. If it's in the wall it probably won't matter unless the mice decide it is tasty. If you are coiling them up every day you will find out how the wrapper ages in a few years.

Seems to be a Horizon/Rapco "higher" end cable.

For my money, it's hard to beat a Canare. For snakes, Redco cable isn't half bad but Mogami is (IMO) king. I've been making a new series of cable using thinner mic cable. It's non-quad Canare that's a little less than half the diameter of their star quad. The specs are very similar as well. I've used them in some pretty long runs and been very satisfied.

All I can say is, if you're paying "over the counter" prices for any of that, you're paying too much!

I have used the Canare cable for my mic cables, its good stuff. I like Mogami too, but for me canare is easier to get. To be honest anything will work, however cables like the canare or mogami might give you that 0.1% sound improvement. They are nicer in the feel and flex department though.

I use CA-L-2B2AT Canare inside my pres,compressors and mixers. It flexs nicely and is small enough to pack in.

The CA-L-4E6S is a very nice cable it terms of feel and flex.

+1 on Canare, nice stuff all around!
If you look at each of their cable specs they're all really close.

Of course there's always those $5000.00 cables out there!

New way to order cables

I am working on a site allowing people to choose what cable and connectors they want to use. The site is http://www.dutshut.com. I would appreciate any feedback from the community on how I can improve the site. I have a desire to allow people to see the different options in one simple interface, then they can make a choice. I realize I have lots of manufacturers to add, but we are working on it. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

From the little I tried it, I found a cable brand , made the lenght with ends no problem. Nice start. I like your site.

Ha! I tried to create a stereo microphone cable (5-pin XLRF to 2x 3-pin XLRM), and it wouldn't let me. It treats each channel of a multi-channel cable as needing its own connector.

So, anyone got experience with sommer cable for location work?

I now have my entire system wired with 110 ohm AES Mogami and Dominator cable, analog included. The Dominator Cable is very nice and is rated better that Mogami and Canare. Apparently Dominator was designed for better RF. My system is dead quiet, I love it. I bought the dominator through AnnexPro in Vancouver. Bryon Adams stellar studio is all wired with it so I figured I was in good recommendation to try it too. So, comparing both Mogami 3162 and Dominator E200285, the Dominator is a bit stiffer and thicker. As far as sound, I don't have RF issues here so I can't say. My system is so quite, its hard to know its on.
