Hey,

It's new mic preamp time! I am looking for a solid state pre so I thought that I'd look into Great River because everyone seems to recommend them. My understanding is that the MP-2 is more of a direct wiring pre and that the MP-2NV is modelled after a 1073 but what does this mean to me sonically?

I am looking for a good pre to match my Neumann m147 for vocals, as well as put it to use for electric and acoustic guitars... maybe for use in drums somewhere.

Also, are two MP-1NV's the same as one MP-2NV?

Any opinions?

Thanks!

I have a 1NV and yes I like it.
Yes I think that a 1NV is half a 2NV.

What does this mean sonically?
I could use lots of words and relate it to a Neve BUT it might be better to have a listenm to what Dan himself has to say about the design and where his thoughts to his variant of the whole idea.

The George M interview is great ... do have a listen ... he does like to stir the pot.

An added note to the Great River :

... about a third down the page you will find a few comments from Lynn Fuston about the Great River MP2-NV and how it compares to the Neve 1073.
Although I don't own a 1073 and have only had a little time with one .... and that one may not have been in the best condition that it should have been in ....
I do tend to agree with Lynn.

Having said that, I am sure you would find many uses and be very pleased with either Mic-pre.
