The instrumentation for this project includes one or two vocal tracks, the ukulele with possible overdubbed solo's, djembe, and a bit of other hand percussion.

The only mic's I have available are cheap Nady's that came in a drum package. One DM 80 dynamic, several DM70 dynamics, and two CM85 condensers.

What mic(s) should I use on the uke, and where should I place the mic(s)?

In the past, I have used the two CM85s. One pointing at the neck, the other at the sound hole, both about 6 inches away. My results have been weak and muddy. I would like them to sound sharp and fresh. I hope the bad sounds are more of a result of the cheap mics, rather than my skills... although I still consider myself a novice.

I am going for a laid-back style, kind of a cross between Iz, Jack Johnson, and softer Sublime.

Thanks for any help!

PS - In the title, technically should it be "an" ukulele? It doesn't sound right without the "a".
