I currently have a macbook with 2 gigs ram (max amount I can have). I am considering another mac. Here is the software I want to run.

Logic Studio
Ocean Way drums
Ivory pianos
symphony program
NI B4 organ.

I found a guy that wants to sell me a mac pro 8 core 3.25ghz, 16 gigs ram, 1 terabyte HD for about $3300. Its a year old. Would this be going overboard? Any suggestions?

It's not overkill but it is over priced. Check apple.com for the refurbished Mac Pros that are selling for just $100 more. You get the added benefit of a warranty.

Also, there are many scammers out there. If you found this guy on craigslist, look out. A lot of people on craigslist are selling stolen macs and/or just plain selling over priced macs. If it's stolen, you'll never be able to get a warranty unless you can convince the original owner to hand over his registration. Not likely.
