How far away is resonable to be from my Genalec 1031a's.
I had them behind the console about 5 or 6 feet from me on stands, 6' apart in a triange but moved them to my console top, now I really don't know what I'm hearing. They are in about a 40" triangle now. I know part is the acoustic's but I've "lost that lovin' feeling."
Is six feet away to far away? The top of my Argosy console is 15" deep (special mahogony tops)
When the speakers sat behind the console any reflection was of the console top not the board.
Also they are three feet further away from the front wall. There's 6' between console and front wall.
If I put they back do you think it would help with reflections if I raise the Tops on the console in front so I have a slight angle to reflect sound over me instead onto the board?
This Argosy is a 90 series with an expander so it's about 12' long.
Any suggestions? Anybody?
Thanks,
Larry

When I see nearfiels in pictures it looks like they are sitting directly on the console tops.
Most of the time they look no futher away than 3' away.
When I sit close to the 1031a's the top end sounds a little harsh and the bottom end is very punchy when I move away to about a 6' triangle it's sounds just the opposite.
Top sounds a little darker and a little smeared. The bottom loses it's seperation and punch.
BUT if I mix from about 6' I adujust for all that and my mixes sound better.
I've been doing some room treatment so my speaker position and room acoustics have changed. It's taking some time to find the REAL sweet spot for everything. I've posted before I'm getting ready to move after 17 years so I'm trying not to freak out and spend to much where I'm at now. IT'S HARD WHEN IT'S "LOST THAT LOVING FEELING"
Any other opions on how far from near fields they are listening?
The roon is about 16X20 and 12' high ceilings.
The new control room can be 20' wide and up to 40' long with 13' high ceilings.

Larry

Thanks guys I think in my sickness to move things all the time I've runied a good thing.
I'm going to put them back away from me aways and do a rough and listen in the real world and see if it sloves some of my recent problems.

My moto is "if it aint broke see how bad you can tear it up!"
Guess it is left over from the 70's
