You really need to throw in a few more specifics. What is your input source? What software are you using? Exactly which operating system are you using? Forget Windows XP Media Center Edition. Ain't going to work with that. Can you play anything? Are you trying to play files or are you using professional audio software? Give us more. We want more. It doesn't necessarily replace your onboard computer sound card device for everything. It's an ASIO device which your operating system may not consider legitimate? So many possibilities so little information.

if you are using the cubase that came with it, you need to specify it in the devices list, and then configure your input and output buses

I'm using Windows XP Professional, and I'm using the Cubase LE 4 software that came with it. I have the USB plugged directly into the computer, and everything specified with the computer itself, and Cubase. I've gone through and double checked make sure that the ASIO driver is set to Alpha ASIO and what not its just not recording anything.

I'm following the instructions in the manual to just record an electric guitar straight through the "Instrument" input and it still won't pick up anything.

One thing that concerns me is everytime I attempt to make a new project in Cubase, it will come up with a window titled "Missing Ports". An example of this is:

ASIO Hammerfall DSP - Digiface ADAT 1 In Unmapped

And follows down ADAT 2 In Unmapped, ADAT 1 Out Unmapped, so on and so forth I'm not quite sure what that means or if it means anything.

that means it is using the wrong device
the input and output buses need to be set to use the alphas inputs (1 and 2) and the stereo bus for output

in the device setup area, make sure alpha asio is selected like you did, and hit the reset button.

also, dont use the preconfigured bus schemes, start a blank project and set up a simple mono to stereo bus scheme and work with that.
