Just thought I'd throw this in for some food for thought.

First let me 'splain...

I'm old. Been toting gear for a long time. Getting new knees will help but thats not going to happen sooner than later. So...live shows are slowing down since I'm the main PA/Lights owner /mover. I've been needing to compact things for awhile now and finally did it.

The new board is the QSC Touch Mix 16. Its really quite good and its the size of a laptop. Comes with a dongle and an app for the iPad so you can control it from afar. The new release of the WiFi protocol was a week or so ago so I'm going to reset everything and get with the program.
Powerful and deep sounding EFX, 20 X 10 architecture, the 16 mic preamps have the gain control right on top but everything else is either touch-screen or there's a rotary control you can use for fast and furious tweaking.
And it sounds great.

I've still got a fairly substantial club system of JBL SRX cabinets, and the heavy amp racks to light 'em up.

But the "ROCK out, with your BACK out" rig, consists of:

1 SKB mini-GigRig (39 lbs. empty) containing
1 Soundcraft FX16 (10 lbs.)
1 Furman PL-Pro II (11 lbs)
1 Klark DN-300 31-band (8 lbs.)
1 dbx 166XL (5 lbs.)
1 Crown XTi-2000 (18 lbs.)

If I use the right tripods, I can throw a crossbar of LED lights on the same stand as the VLA speakers. I've used this system indoors and outdoors with the 3-pc rock/blues band to absolute rave reviews on the sound and coverage of this little system, even with subs - under 300 lbs, fits in a short-bed pickup (although the 6ft tall speakers have to go diagonally) - no need to drag the 16ft. trailer, sets-up in minutes.

The SRX cabinets are incredible speakers. Pound for pound they're hard to beat, but x 4 each 728 subs, 722 tops, & the MRX512 wedges account for almost 1100 lbs. in the trailer. That's before you roll in the first amp rack.

It's still funny when I work with guys in their 20's they say, "what's in here.. bricks?, lead?" While guys my age are practically tossing my JBLs and amp racks saying, "I can't believe how light your stuff is!" Like a lot of you, we would have started in the day of the Earthquake cabinets, W's, Perkins, A7, Scoops, etc. and know what heavy really is.

LOL! EXACTLY! A pair of 4520's , 4 4560's, 2445's on the big 120 degree throats with lenses, 2441's on compression 1"ers with lenses......6-BGW's, 4 crown 300's, PM1000, yep, it sounded great....and you could cause structural damage if anyone complained.....ahhh the olden days of being strong enough to be stupid at times without disasterous results.....and to think I jones'd a long time for a pair of Martin sub-bins with the 18's...oh and the two 48" x 24"x24" rolling boxes with cables......easy 200lbs each...NOT to mention the few lights I kept even though I liked to hire that stuff so I didn't have to screw with it....Par64's and ellipsoidols

Now its the TouchMix, a pair of QSC K12's, 2 Yamaha DXS12's, Par38's (switching to led's soon) A four pack led's for rear lighting...led uplights and Boom...It sounds great too...I still have the JBL monitors though. Old school Caberet's...They sound so good...hard to get rid of em.

Kurt...I got a salesman accomodation on the mixer but they MAP @ 1300.

Not at this time. I don't really need it in my studio. From what I understand you can record 22 tracks...all inputs....to a hard drive via the usb port. The drive must be FAT32. Beyond that I'm unsure as to whether this is a viable recording surface. I know they designed it for live application.
