Hello.

I new at this forum here, and sorry if you find my english a little to low, i'm from denmark. Hope i post this subject in the correct place.

I'm about to take a big step in my life buying a new studio analog console. It dosent have to be a 48+ model, maybe just 24 channel.
There should be plenty of Aux sends to make monitor sends and one or two stereo channels. The mixer must be vintage, and the preamps should be hot sounded (if you know what i mean). Don't think about the price first, just quality.

For the conversion of analog to digital i use 1x Fireface 800 & 2x Octamic D Mkr. II (24ch)

Looking forward to se some answers - Happy new year!

I find Danish a little too sweet for me but I'll try to answer just the same?

I always knew you Danes were smart folks. But I really must ask. You want those beautiful, classic sounding microphone preamps? A rack of API & a rack of Neve should fulfill your cold wet dreams. But your requirements also indicate, you intend to mix upon this desk? Then, you also indicate that you are mixing in the computer? If you're going to mix in the computer? Why would you need a fully functional desk? That is unless you're going to mix with it? And, you don't you intend to use this in a portable application do you? API's & Neve's aren't exactly portable. But racks of their preamps can be. So this would be a huge factor in your decision-making process. Classic consoles weigh as much as a small car. And like cars, require regular emissions testing. Especially since most of us are more polluted than the sound we are recording.

Repeat after me, "I want warm sound in Denmark".

I would look for a D&R Orion or a Neotek Elan in the under $25,000 USD range. Use outboard EQs with either console for a vintage sound. You simply can't get a vintage Neve, API, Helios, etc... sound without paying big $$$ for it. The next major price level ($25k-$50k USD) puts you in the Audient ASP8024 to API 1608 range for new units. A vintage DDR console might also be worth a look. Beyond about $50,000 USD starts getting to the used SSL AWS900 price point or maybe a Trident or used Daking (if you can find one). Beyond around $75,000 puts you at the low end of the true large format consoles. Happy hunting!
