Is it possible to connect a Focusrite octopre directly to a macbook? I already have a digi002 and will be able to use them together via the ADAT, but will I be able to connect the octopre directly to the mac book. I realize i won't be able to do it with Protools. I have logic express and GB on the macbook.

I am hoping so because I do not plan on using the pre's on the digi anymore and it would nice to cut down on the equipment being lugged around. Portability is key.

Thanks Much

No, you will need something to get ADAT into the MacBook. Look for an external soundcard with ADAT i/o. The M-Audio Lightbridge will allow you to use it with M-Powered ProTools LE. Check with Digidesign if it will also work with the normal PTLE. The number of inputs into PTLE is limited to about 12 or so. Check on M-Audio site. Of course this device will definately work with Logic.

I will let others recommend ADAT i/o alternatives.

Do you already have the Octopre with the ADAT output option or are you just thinking of buying one? If the latter, then much better to go for an interface that has FireWire connectivity instead of or as well as ADAT lightpipe. Otherwise, as cfaalm says, you will need a second interface device just to convert ADAT to FireWire. Not conducive to high portability.
