I've read that win7 64 Window Media Center (WMC) is a resource hog. Can drain up to 50%. Also read that deactivating the sync is what to do. Do you have yours removed, disabled, what?

I've noticed less skipping during playback when using a lot of VST. My ASIO time goes down a little, making playback better. Matters to me a lot 'cause I like Amplitube and my Waves plugins.

As for burning a CD, don't sweat it. I haven't burned a CD in over a year, so I can't tell you re; Media Center, but there are plenty of free burner softwares out there.

In regard to msconfig, there are many services you can turn off. I've got about 1/2 of them off!

I highly recommend a read through at Blackviper's site. I used his pages to help me decide what to turn off. In additions to services, I turn off things in the startup tab, too. Like Adobe gamma loader, adobe reader, etc. The price I pay is that it takes 2 seconds longer to call up a .pdf file this way. So what? I also kill quicktime, Apple push, DIVX update, Office loader, etc.

If you go too far with it, you might not get internet access, or something like that. Simple to reverse.

Also, in the BOOT tab, select No GUI boot. Then go to ADVANCED OPTIONS, and check NUMBER OF PROCESSORS. Use the pull down to select all CPUs you have. Those two things alone will make boot time muuuuch faster. You wont see the animation when Windows is loading, though!

You mean Microsoft is still making Media Center Editions? That version stunk in 32-bit Windows XP. In fact, ProTools was guaranteed not to work under that version regardless of how the OS was tweaked. So maybe they've gotten a little smarter with Windows 7? But it still sounds like it's a dog? Bark bark give me a bone. Yeah, just turn off everything in the operating system except for the basic kernel. Then you'll have a good 64-bit version of Windows 2000 and things will work better. LOL And that's the name of that tune. At least ProTools has been upgraded to contend with the lousy Windows Operating System over a broader range than in the past. The trick is actually in commanding Windows to allow you to do the thinking for the computer and not allowing the computer to do its own thinking. Computers today think too much which just complicates too many issues. Real engineers like to do their own thinking.

I'd think better if I had all of my brain, which I don't. But brain damage, like beggars can't be choosers.
