Hello everyone,
I was wondering if passing the signal from a high quality converter to my PC via a cheap interface will cause degradation. I have a cheap Edirol interface through which I'd like to pass a stereo signal from Apogee converters. I don't want to have to buy something like an RME Digiface, as it would be overkill.

Any degradation would likely be caused by a poor or sloppy clock
Any degradation would likely be caused by a poor or sloppy clock of the sending device and/or the clock/PLL of the recieving device. Depending on your ear and monitoring, it may be a difference so small that you are not able to tell but others could. SCMS is just a flag in the data bits (non audio bits) to control how the copy management flage is set. These days there are plenty of devices and software that can change it's status or remove/bypass it.
