I am looking into getting a new CD burner for my computer b/c some of the masters that I have made don't play on all CD players. I use CD architect to layout my projects. Anyways, Best Buy has a couple PLEXTOR burners for sale. One is only around $100. I was wondering if these would produce a lot less errors per disc as compared to my burner on my Sony Vio computer and thus be easily read by CD players. Thanks.

Yes the ones they carry are the PX-716a and one that you don't have to install in your tower (usb connection) the PX-716UF. So I am thinking either of these would improve the readability of my projects on a variety of players. Is that correct?

Tayo Yuden for almost (umm...maybe actually) a decade have manufactured the most consistent high quality CDR's. Their only real competition in the past for this niche was Mitsui Gold...but I don't think those are manufactured anymore.

As far as I know, the PlexWriter Premium and the 716 fall into that category.
Tayio Yuden discs rock - Normally... I've had a few less than stellar batches recently.
Mitusi Gold are still around (under the MAM-A) label. Just got another 100 in a few days ago. They also rock (big time) but they also cost (big time). Not like the old days when a blank CD-R was $50, but somewhere around $1.30 or so...

The 716A is compatible with plextools pro and plextools pro XL (which isn't free)...I picked one up a few days ago to replace a failing drive in one of my production computers. I've been pleased with it.

The only potentially useful difference I see is possibly the cue sheet support with it's burning app...for what that's worth. (Might be useful if you're burning app doesn't yet recognize the drive...but most pro software has ways around that anyway.)
