Okay, really desperate here, I would really appreciate some help as I've tried everything.
Been trying to work out the PreSonus firepod for the last 3 months, but nothing worked.
Here are the symptoms :
1) strange artifacts, noise and glitches are added to the recorded sound, kinda like a bit crusher effect used on the tracks. This glitch can be heard either on playback, or while I record on the phones output of the firepod. Imagine a distortion + pitch vibrato going on.
2) as I record, the tracks on Cubase don't "grow" as fast as the time cursor line, when I stop the recording, the tracks shrink, to various sizes.
Here is what I have tried :
- every possible combination of settings as for latency, drivers settings, etc.
- installing a fresh windows on a new partition with sp2 (I had sp1 installed prior)
- trying another firewire cable
- trying the firepod on my mac laptop (that worked, but only tested once)
Dunno what else to do ! HELP ! This is delaying all by projects.
One thing kind of worked temporarily, when I change internal clock to S/PDIF and then back to normal, the recording will work for 1 or 2 minutes, then the bitcrusher comes back for no reason.
On a side note (though this doesn't constitute a problem) on my old windows sp1, the pc would recognize my MOTU Ultralite but ask for sp2 to go through with the installation. On the fresh windows sp2 install, the pc just doesn't see it ??
The computer is an AMD Athlon with 2 gigs of RAM. Recording goes on an another internal hard drive, using Cubase as a software, when I tried the firepod on my laptop, I used the same Cubase.

What firewire interface are you using? Built in to motherboard
What firewire interface are you using?
Built in to motherboard or seperate pci card?
Do you know what firewire chipset it has?
If it works on your Mac then its not the interface which leaves your computer.
A few more details on your computer will help.
BTW There is nothing wrong with cubase. Which I am sure you know.

1)go to - start - right click my computer - select properties - select advanced - select performance settings- select advanced - set processor scheduling to "background sevices" - hit apply
2) Do you have an anti-virus client installed? If so, turn it off.
3)the firepod control panel has an icon in the system tray. Right click on it and play with the CPU/performance settings
4)Do you ever get BSOD's like IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL? If so is your Firewire card sharing an IRQ with your graphics card?
5)Have you defragged your hard drive lately?
6)If your fresh install of XP didn't recognize hardware it previously did, you may soon be in the market for a new motherboard.
7)Is your copy of Cubase legal?
8)check your xp event log. Any app or system errors related to cubase or firepod?
9)Is your pc and firepod connected to a UPS? Your firepod could be damaged from a surge or brown out.
10)Have you contacted Presonus support? They are generally friendly and quick. As mentioned above apply the firmware upgrade. Use can then use the firepod as 8 standalone preamps as well as your audio interface.
Sorry to answer a question with a bunch of questions... I don't have time to go in depth at the moment.

I remember when first installing it though we had turn a setting down to zero (I believe it was latency) and when we recorded it created all sorts of artifacts. We bumped it up to a higher setting and it worked fine. Sorry if it that doesn't help, I'd say it may be DOA.
On a sidenote, you can use premiere with the Firepod? I had no clue. Hotness.
