Hi guys. I'm trying to recreate as faithfully as possible the sound of a real miked amp. I'm recording my guitar (Epiphone Black Beauty) direct through the instrument inputs of my Mackie Onyx 400f, and using Guitar Rig 2 as an emulator. Of course, the tone isn't the same as recording a real amp, but it sounds too "direct". I was hoping that with the instrument inputs on the Mackie, it would sound almost as good as the real thing.
Is there any kind of direct box or external "booster box" that could give me that "almost like the real thing" sound? I live in an appartment so I can't crank up an amp. I'd like to record my stuff direct if possible.

Korg makes some nice emulator, Line6 POD, Glasstone the 'Tin Can' etc...
Basically the Speaker is like a filter, typically when a plug a Guitar straight into a distortion unit straight into a mixer you get a NIN like nasal tone. The speaker actually filters and rolls off a lot of the annoying upper ranges and some of the lower content. You could experiment within the software equalizer to do the same things as the pedal mentioned above. Its not easy though, it will take a bit of time, so once you got an eq to sound good save it for next time. To get you started check out these frequency plots.
