Our worship band is doing a Friday night thing tomorrow and I am going to record it and I need to keep it simple. My plan was to use an m-s setup with an AKG 414 and one other mic( i have to see what I have over there). I probably won't be able to set it up very close to the stage. The style is sort of rock(guitars drums bass). The room is fairly large, with seating for probably 1500. This is my fist time to try this kind of live recording so does this setup sound ok?

well the only place I can really set this up with little time is on the balcony with the sound board. probably 10 rows back and 20 feet high. I could possibly set up near the front but I would need to get the ok. I have access to 4 akg 414's, i think there is a pair of akg 451's and various other condensers so I could use another setup.

Not really, no, but it may be the best you can do. If you have dissimilar mics, one maybe a dynamic having a cardioid pattern, and one (the 414) at least switchable to fig-8, M-S is the only contender.
Where will they be positioned relative to the performers? You said "not very close to the stage", but I hope you don't mean at head height 10 rows back in the audience. The success of M-S depends greatly on microphone positioning. In particular, the M mic needs to be able to "see" all the performers (sound sources) individually, and, if possible, at the same distance. This generally implies being able to get some height, but also be conscious of what the lobes of the S mic are pointing at - roof truss girders are not good.
