This is a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone has any specific recommendations for recording studios and engineers in L.A.?
I'm looking to record a nice demo with my band on the cheap, and I know that more expensive doesn't always mean better as much as it does "more popular" when it comes to studios.

I've done some home recording with my last band and it didn't work out great (the drums and vocals were just not happening in that setting).

finding a studio in LA can be a daunting task. I know of a couple near LA but it really kind of depends on the type of music you're recording. It's always best to find people to work with that are into your kind of music.
If you know of any indie bands that you like, look at their CD insert and see where they recorded. Maybe you'll be lucky and find one in LA. If not you can always look up the studio where they recorded and maybe you could find links to other studios in the same genre that are in LA.
Here's a link to a list of indie labels.
