Yes that should work as long as you have the same sample rate on both machines matched.

Example:
44.1 Out of Keyborard enabled.

44.1 In software program in record ready.

Sample rates have to match in record ready. Plus digital input must be enabled in recording software.

Excuse me for living but aren't these two different things? Isn't the keyboard a coaxial output? Would you not require a transformer to make this connection to SP/DIF?

What happens if you go from the 1/4" outs to the 1/4" inputs with a cable? That's easy right?

The "digital out" on the M08 is S/PDIF on an RCA socket, and it should plug right into the 610 S/PDIF in. Use a 75 Ohm RCA - RCA cable. Set the clock source in the 610 to be "S/PDIF".

Ok, so I already installed the interfase, connected the RCA cable from the MO8, to the S/PDIF in of the interfase. Then in Logic Pro, in settings I put the resolution in 44.1. Then put the core audio device to profire. Then i created a new track with external MIDI, then on the library I selected the yamaha 08 channel 1 and then the specific sound. When I played the keyboard I still didn't get any audio. I know for a fact that the midi information is getting to the computer because if I put a software instrument then the instrument does play. What am I doing wrong? Or what else do I need to do in order to use the sounds of the M08 .

Don't get confused between MIDI operation and routing S/PDIF digital audio. They are quite separate things.

You need to use the 610 software control panel to set up the 610 routing ahead of it being seen by Logic. Check that you have the "Sync Source" set to "S/PDIF" in the "settings" tab.

Now you should try to generate a local mix in the 610. Plug headphones into the Phones1 jack. Go to the "Analog Out 1/2" mixer tab and look at the level meters for channels 5 & 6 (the S/PDIF channels) while you play notes on the keyboard. Raise the faders on channels 5&6 and the master faders and you should be able to hear your keyboard notes.

If you can't, it's nothing to do with Logic, and you should concentrate on why no S/PDIF signal is going between your keyboard and the 610. Is there some enabling you have to do on the M08 keyboard to get it to use its S/PDIF output?

To test S/PDIF operation on the 610, you could link the S/PDIF cable round from the 610 output to its input, and use Logic to play tracks out of the S/PDIF. To do this, use the "S/PDIF" mixer tab and raise the faders on whichever output channels you are playing plus the master faders for that mix. Then use the 1/2 input tab as before for the headphone mix.
