I've got a new console coming and looks like the whole studio furniture thing gets revamped.

This means new iso boxes for the converters, amps, etc. AND a new patchbay setup.

I'll start with CAD drawings of the space and hopefully incorporate the patchbay arrangement into the top area of the new iso boxes.

Once I get the drawings done, I'll get them built and hopefully finished on time.

After that, it'll be a matter of timing... I'll need to disassemble the existing console frame/racks and heft my new "mistress" into place.. cable my baby up, make sure everything works, then test the frequency response... make adjustments and test again, until I have the best frequency response I can.

I'm WAAAAY too big of a glutton for punishment to buy something generic, when I can pinch fingers, get splinters and cuss my own stupidity! o_O o_O o_O

I've actually got the (leftover) cut off pieces from the microlam beam used in the Tracking Room that I'm contemplating on using... But there are only 3 pieces. So, it only becomes "viable" to use them if I build one single rack.

This actually presents an issue that I don't like the idea of dealing with... an asymmetrical Control Room. (I had hard time enough with the asymmetry that exists.)

So, I'm probably going to use some 3/4" cabinet grade oak plywood, and trim with some of the leftover jatoba flooring I used in the Control Room wall finishes.

My current "iso" boxes are made from 3/4" cabinet grade plywood, with a layer of 5/8" gypsum and 1/2" hardie backer board. My fear is that they are about 2" too high to be able to work with the new console... and have room to integrate the patchbays into.

Decisions, decisions.....

My desk is 2 road case assembled with a painted plywood on top.. it's really bad to look to.
I know I want to build a real desk myself, but I guess I'm not bored enough of what I have to start the project.. and now the snow is comming.. It may wait until next summer lol..

Anyway, I'm gonna follow this thread with great interest. ;)

In the meantime, I'm thinking of ordering a custom kitchen countertop to replace the plywood. They make very good looking ones now a day.
It would leave me the racks to replace next spring...

The design I think of consist of a flat top with 2 x 6 space racks each side on which I'll sit the monitors.
