What microphones do you like to record electric guitar w
I like the 421+57 combo that i usually use, sometimes I add in a 414 on omni or figure8. I'd really like to get my hands on an RE20 or 27, I miss having that mic around.
I used to use an SM57 up close and a condenser of some sort a ways back, but these days I find that a single R121 works just great.
A dragonfly is also a good choice.

I've been longing for a Royer for a long time now, although I am still getting good results with the MD421/SM57/MD441 collection that I have. I will also at time combine an omni LDC.
Has anyone tried the AEA stuff? The new one is getting pretty good reviews, but I am still trying to find someone that is using one on electric guitar.
Based on a question recently posted in Micing, Tracking Etc... I dusted off an old Radio Shack PZM and screwed it to the wall in the closet I use for guitar amps (about 2' away), ran it through a passive DI and also ran an ATM29HE, much like a 57. When I compared the two on playback, I was stunned. I'll use both tracks during a bottleneck portion, but only the PZM elsewhere. Got an extra $40? Go buy one.
I love ribbons on guitar cab. I use an RCA BK-5 a lot. I guess the secret is out about the RS PZM. I got one a few years ago, and was amazed, but I couldn't admit to anyone that I got it at RADIOSHAK

I like the Sennheiser e609, MD521 (some times as a combo) or a Sony C-48(omni) when it ain't blazing marshals.

Well I don't have a fancy ribbon or LDC to work with so I use what I got..

I am going to get flamed for this one but the ML52 ( oktava ribbon) through electrodyne 2000 channel strip is my 1st stop these days . and it sounds great. think m160 -api type sound with an extra $1000 in the bank
I usually go ribbon/dynamic. Most often I use the Royer 122 and an SM57. If the cab has an open back, I do the dual 57 out of phase method. If the sound needs to be bigger, I use the AEA R84. If I'm going for a less harsh distortion I'll use a 421 instead of the 57. The Beyer M160 is usually my preference if I'm using a smaller amp. I've been using a Little Labs IBP almost everytime since I've gotten it for this.
The usual 57/421 plus I'm liking my ADK A51 in a slight off-axis tilt....also really starting to enjoy the ATM25 in very tight to a closed back cabinet.I tried an ATM63 on the back of a small Fender amp and liked its crispness in conjunction with the 57in front.
a couple of people mentioned using a blue baby bottle, i was just curious what styles you've used them for? i have one but never thought to use it on a guitar cab.
I get great results micing electric guitar amps with an RCA D77-
MD421, very pushing and bright sound.
MD441, more bottom and less bleed.
M88, more tight than the Sennheisers and even less bleed.
SP B1, warm and realistic sound, great for jazz guitars.
