I am getting more and more bands interested in recording with me. Most of whom I don't know and have not heard of. I am looking to write a contract agreement basically stating when payment is due and how I want them on time. But my question is...what else should i include? And if any one happens to have a sample of their contract I can base mine off of I would greatly appreciate it!

First off, make sure that it is a formal legal document; have co-signees for the band to be listed as witnesses to the party's signing, or maybe you could even make them backup money sources.

With time make sure you start when its scheduled. Say that for every recording session they must specify a start and stop time, only the stop time being flexible. Once they sign, they have signed to pay for that time block, regardless of their showing up. If they're late, doesn't matter, they're still paying. Always include a way for them to cancel or reschedule, but make sure that you have explicitly written how to actually do that and how much a cancellation fee would cost.

I'd also contract damages, stating that they are liable for any physical damages done to your facilities including equipment during the time that they have specified. You break it, you buy it.

Another thing I do is include visitors. Allow a checkbox type situation for them to mark it as a closed session, or open session. Also get written down if there will be any floating groupies around, I've had issues with them in the past, so agree with them on an amount of people allowed in excluding the actual band members.

Specify who has rights to the master, if a band happens to break up, a member might want revenge. Make sure you have in writing who exactly is allowed the master copy of the album.

Basically, my contract deal isn't limited just to money; gotta include your rules in there to so that its written that they have agreed to them.
