Which audio editing program for PC?

I'm on a budget and am looking for a great audio/music editing program for my PC. Which would you choose? I'm just a beginner with recording and won't be doing a whole lot of it. I usually do live sound for events and outreaches. So, I don't really need anything top of the line. I know how to use Logic, but I don't have a Mac.

As an AUDIO EDITOR, rather than a DAW program, I think you have to consider Sony Soundforge or Adobe Audition. Soundforge has a cut down version which retains a lot of functionality called SoundForge Audio Studio. Audacity - great for free, but definately quite limited compared to Soundforge/Audition or Wavelab.

Reaper is more of a DAW program than an audio editor and it is NOT free, you get to TRIAL it for free for 30 days, then you are expected to purchase a license, with a very reasonable 60 dollars for the non commercial license or 225 for the full license.

The OPs message is a little unclear - are you looking for an audio editor, or for a multitrack audio recording/editing program with MIDI functions ????

I actually already have Sony Soundforge Audio Studio and I've been using it for a couple years. In the past I've used it to edit individual files or EQ a mix from a live performance or something. However, now I need something so that I can compile multiple tracks. Audacity is garbage; I can tell already. Reaper, yes, I saw that it is only a trial. I downloaded a trial of Sony Acid Music Studio 7.0, but a lot of the feature aren't there unless I buy it. I have used Logic Express before. At my school we have a music lap with Logic Express and it was pretty nice to use. However, I don't have a MAC at home. So, what I'm saying is that I need a multi track music editing program.
