Hello all,

I got one of these puppies a while back from my brother, and had been too busy to use it. Now, I'm trying to get it going with my MacBook so I can download and edit the audio files I've recorded.

I installed the version of Cubase that comes along with the device, but it's telling me that it's expired, and will not allow me to use it.

Unfortunately the help and FAQ sections I've seen for this device are awful.

So...do I have to download a new version of Cubase? Am I screwed for not installing the other version earlier enough? Sorry for n00bing out so hard here, but I'm not good at this stuff...simple as it probably is.

I wasn't aware there was an expiry date built into the demo copy of Cubase that came with the H4N, but it looks as though that's what you have found.

I would hold off buying a new copy of Cubase until you have more familiarity with how the recording and editing process works and what you want to use it for. It could well turn out that some other digital audio workstation (DAW) suits your needs better than Cubase, but you are not yet in a position to judge that.

You can download [="http://audacity.sourceforge.net/"]Audacity[/]="http://audacity.sou…"]Audacity[/], which is a simple, freeware 2-track sound editor, and [[url=http://="http://www.reaper.f…"]Reaper[/]="http://www.reaper.f…"]Reaper[/], a low-cost, slightly quirky but full-featured DAW with 30-day approval time, and these will give you enough to get started on your recording journey.

Several of us on these forums have H4Ns, kept for those particular recording occasions where more extensive recording rigs would not be appropriate, so don't hesitate to ask about using the device.
