RE20 and SM7B - Proximity Effect and Variable D chat
Forums
I thought I'd look at the Electrovoice RE20 and the SM7B, both coming from the broadcast industry where radio in particular needed mics where the talent could move around a fair bit without the tone of the mics changing very much.

More Chinese mics - Two winners and an average one
Forums
I've been going through the mics that arrived while I was away, and one mic, I don't think people will like, but a couple that are quite cheap and very good!
I'm working on another video warning people that sometimes mics from China can be simply awful, and how price means little sometimes. I'll have that one done in a day or two, spare work time permitting.

Microphone database - new owner
Forums
The old Microphone Data website has been bought by Odratek BV, and re-launched as Micpedia. It looks interesting and reasonably comprehensive. The new owners are promising further entries of individual mics as well as features such as shoot-outs between microphones.

Grand Pianos again - some different ideas
Forums
I've been experimenting with finding the right mics for a grand piano and before I finish the video, I thought I'd shar some of the recordings so far.
We have a G2 Yamaha Grand, and my favourites are still a pair of AKG 414s - one favouring the left hand and the other the right.

Mics for cello recording
Forums
I spent a lot of time today on my cello quest. In the end, I picked the SM57, and the Sennheiser e906 (mainly because I'd been using 3 of them for a Queen Tribute - and they did quite well on AC30 amps. I went with the AKG 414 and the U87.

Counterfeit Shure SM7B Microphone
Forums
We've known that counterfeit mics are available for years - the SM57 and SM58 dodgy mics being well known, but a friend sent me an SM7B to try.
Things didn't go that well, to be honest - but not in the way you might imagine. One thing is clear, you do need to be on the ball. In the video, I've run through what I found, and you can hear the genuine SM7B against the fake.
