How do you like the new forum?

I waited almost 2 years to upgrade our forum. Today its now current. There are some things that may not migrate over but I'm working on it.

How do you like it so far? Any suggestions?

It seems okay. Change is always uncomfortable, but I'm planning on just getting used to the new way of things. What I would like to see, which we had before, is a "go to first unread post" button on threads.

I was amazed to see the change:). It reminds me of when I migrated our game server forum over to our private system. Everyone was a little lost for about a week. I think it’s a lot better on my iPhone so far anyway. Snappier for sure.

I like it ! Still sober and effective, I'll need to us it more.
Maybe you could add a link on the top menu to a page that explain how to post and general usage of the forum for those who don't know how a forum works..

Good work Chris !!

I was convinced my computer had taken me somewhere new for five topics I read from a couple of years ago and then spotted one of my own posts and only then did it click - I feel so stupid! I think I like it - clean and uncluttered.

Yup!
I'm seeing reported posts by some of the members. Thank you! NOW... Finally able to do some house cleaning. Thanks for reporting spam etc.

Hey Chris there is a formatting error on the site header (top), on my phone (andriod with crome browser). My avatar pic and the envelope icon seems to covering the text.

Not sure this is wide spread or just on my cheapo phone. Figured id mention it.

Thanks for sharing this Kyle. I'm not seeing that but wonder if others are seeing this too? Definitely need to resolve this issue.
Can you close your browser and then reload to see if refreshing resolved that for you.

Too much now Chris. Two step verification and the need to save loads of recovery numbers. It’s a forum, surely a simple password is enough? We’re not accessing your pension. I had to go downstairs find my phone and come back to this pad because it has my business email not the one the forum uses. What a faff. What a pain and so unnecessary for a chat forum. I almost didn’t bother. Having to use two devices to do this is a pain if you use a vpn or multiple locations.

Sorry, Paul. Glad to hear your comments. I'm getting familiar too. The new forum has a lot of options added for everyone. I think you simply can add or remove whatever you want in your profile... More choices that are globally set. Being said... I'll look to see if I can make two step verification an option. Give me a sec to figure it out.

Two-steps verification should be fixed, Paul!

I got caught as well. It's not as though there is any means of saving the 90 digits of backup codes other than writing them down by hand from the screen (I'm on an iPad at the moment).

I could see I had alerts behind the verification screen, but having gone through the whole two-step process, the alerts have disappeared.

Later: I see you have fixed it, Chris. Thanks.

Phew! I just hit the two step verification options for a few minutes, thinking it was a good security feature for whomever would like that added setting. Had no idea it would send logs of back dated code! So sorry. Glad you took a breath and are still here :)

Yes, when I globally enable it, the option to disable two-step verification is in the everyone's security settings, however, until I can set the default to off for everyone before hand, I won't turn that on again lol! Its been deactivated for now.

Two step setup fine for me!. Thanks for adding this!. It’s what all sites need!!.

I use it here, and prefer to have it on. I take every precaution to protect the security of us here. Two-step verification is a very good thing!

Being said, glad you like it Tony. I'll try and find a way to set it to "off" as the default.

Generally Speaking

Change is always awkward at first.
Every member should take the time to go through their preferences, especially older members that haven’t done that in years.
Two step verification is a security measure. It’s an essential step for anyone with moderator or administration level access but it’s also just good protection for protecting yours, mine, our content as a community.

Members should become more familiar with how their profile and content integrates into this “community”.

Your content and how you share it in our community is biggest improvement here.

I think it looks very nice. XenForo has a nice interface and good configuration options, it seems. I would definitely get a "dark" theme option going since it's very popular these days. I have a hard time looking at a bright white screen since I'm so used to using it.

Great idea, thanks for the suggestion. Can you post a link to an example of what you would like to have. Thanks!

PM'd.

Wow! It really looks great, Chris.

If people aren't aware of what this is, it basically makes your white windows dark/light gray and the text white. Easy on the eyes and looks very sharp. You can turn it on in your preferences or at the bottom of the site's main window.

That's a nice bump. I wonder how long it will last. Often you get an initial transient followed by a long tapering tail. Perhaps that will bring in a few new regular users.

I think the thread counts will last but I don’t think the post counts will change. We’ve been in the mid 20,000 threads a day for years.
I’m not sure what will inspire new users anymore. Hopefully the simpler forum layout is inspiring.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Which CMS were you looking at? Would adding a CMS increase the vulnerability of the site to malware and hacks in general?

I’ve been working with Drupal for years so that would be my choice. It’s very secure

Thinking more on a CMS. I think it would be fun to do.

We’d be the first to do this with such an awesome forum already in place. We’d build a huge community around the forums.
Start out with a selected group of members to help.

Just trying to learn something....What advantages will it provide?

As an example, in your case you could manage, build and connect your entire business within it.

Example,

just brain storming here...
Once we open it up to the community, The term “Self Serving” is no longer something negative because what each member contributes, they are also helping the community because we are all connecting us together in various ways, talents services etc etc .
Blogs, articles, endless categories and a taxonomy that joins everything “recording related” hundreds of interactive functions which can always be directed to our forums. Everything can be cross linked which is the idea of a content management system.

the system would be what each member wants out of it.
