Balanced cables and POD: It doesn't make sense, explain plz
In my small home studio I decided to try using my POD 2.0 as my guitar effects unit. The problem is, I have been getting a lot of noise in my signal. I decided to check out using some balanced 1/4" cables, because it says in the manual that the outputs are in fact balanced, and will get rid of unwanted noise.
Quality Loss with 45 ft. of balanced XLR cables?
If I were to connect 3 balanced XLR cables together (each about 15 feet, resulting in a total distance of about 45 ft.), would this result in signal loss, or degraded audio quality?
Help with a Cable tester! Berhinger CT100

I had recently purchased a Berhinger CT100 (mic/line tester); however, the manual is terrible and I am not sure exactly what the ground shield indicator does? I wrote Berhinger; however, I don't believe they answered my question. My Question is:

audio Cable tester for studio
Which cable tester are you guys are using? There are a ton of them to choose from, I was hoping a few people can recommend one of them over the others.
I have a multi meter, but I need something to use in the studio, for real quick checks of cables. (XLR's, TS, TRS, etc, etc.)

Making XLR to 1/4" TS cable
I am trying to make an XLR to 1/4" TS cable for my Eventide Eclipse.
I am using it in the effects loop of my guitar amp. The effects loop is unbalanced, but the Eventide unit MUST be connected via the XLR jacks.
I know I need a 3 conductor cable, and I know how to connect the XLR end, but what do I connect the last wire to on the TS end of the 1/4 TS plug?
