cable question

ok so I'm attempting to save a few bucks by putting together my own cables to connect my digi002 with my event aSP8's. I read somwhere that using balanced connections has the most advantages so I'm looking to make a 10' cable with one end a TRS(002) and the other a male XLR(sp8) for each. this apparently requires a 3 conductor type cable.

What is the difference between TRS and TS cable?

Yo guys, i've got a real newbie question here.
What is the difference between TRS cables and TS cables?
The reason I ask is because I just realized that I've been using TRS cables coming out of my Roland Synth, straight into me cheapo patchbay, then from there into a pair of TS cables on the other side of the patchbay into whatever pre i'm running the synth to.

4 pin to 6 pin or 6 pin to 4 pin firewire cable connector?

High i decided to buy an external hard drive for my laptop since the one that it came with its a 4200rpm hard drive. From what i have seen all external hard drives come with a 6 pin firewire conection or usb 2.0 but my laptop a dell inspiron 9300 has one of dose mini firewire conections. Should i get a 6 pin to 4 pin cable or one the other way around, or are they the same?

Digital Cables

Hi all
I was wondering what you learned gentlemen think about digital cables.

I just got an AKG C426, which sounds great when I'm listening through cans. However, when playing back recordings I've been disappointed. Things sounded very flat, the upper mids were what can only be described as hard, and I now understand what people mean by 'smeared'.

Are Monster Cables Worth It?

I own a couple of these and they seem to be pretty good. I am looking at needing a lot more cables however for microphones and instruments and I was wondering if there is an alternative to monster that is just as good but cheaper or better and the same price. I also wouldn't mind making my own cables if I know what cabling and connectors to use. Any input would help. Thanks
