making your own cables
I was speaking with a friend yesterday and he mentioned that he's been making his own cables recently. Does anyone have any experience doing this? How easy is it? How cost-effective?
Thanks,
Nick

Which is the correct IDE cable?
I heard that there is a difference between the HDD cables that my P4PE will accept. Someone eluded to the fact that to get the highest ATA, I'll need and 80pin? rather than the older style cable on my primary IDE channel, to be sure I'm not running at ATA/66 or the like.
I'm not sure how to tell if I'm using the correct cable. Can someone please advise me? Thank you.

video cable question
Ok,
I noticed that the matrox 450 card at newegg doesn't come with a cable. What type of cable does it need? I found this cable:
GWC KVM cable. 3 in 1. 6FT Male to Male Model 86000
Will this do the job?
Also, the WD drives at newegg are OEM. I'm buying some vantec round ide cable, is there anything else that I will need to have to install the drive?

Lightpipe/Wordclock/BNC cables and converters
Hey All;
Just upgraded my converters and stuff and had a couple questions:
I managed to get a used Lucid ADA8824 and Genx6 for an amazing price, and picked up an RME Digiface to use along with it-I've never used lightpipe/toslink stuff but understand how it all works fine.
quad mic cables=reduced hi freqs?
At lengths of 25ft or less, does one notice a reduction in high frequencies when using a quad mic cable, compared to a standard high quality one? Any other considerations to keep in mind about a quad cable?
Thanks,
Eric

Making an XLR cable
The local Mars Music store is going out of business here locally, and found this a prefect opportunity to pick up some stuff at a big discount. One of the things I got was a couple of large sections of Quad mic cable. I also picked up some Neutrik gold XLR connectors (another store, unfortunately) and will be making a few DIY quad mic cables for pretty cheap.

Soldering a Cable (Cable Design)
OK...as I am going through this "wonder" that I call re-wiring my studio using a patchbay, I have found one cable that I would like to have made that I am a bit unclear about how to design.

Balanced TRS Cables
Well, I have finally added a patchbayto my home studio after much debate, and find that I am going to need something like 22 balanced TRS cables just to wire in the patchbay! This does not include any patch cables for the front in order to redirect signal paths!

Cables overkill?
In the pro audio community, we know that good cables are important. Ok fine but the hi-fi community seems to push the envelope by a factor of 100 and + .
Example? In a studio, who will pay $3,500 per side for speaker cables?.
