Reliability and sound: KRK RP5 vs M-Audio BX5, other cheapos

Hi everyone,

I was basically all set to go for the KRK RP5s, which to me sound quite similar to the M-Audio BX5s, but:

The guy at GC, who seemed to be well enough informed told me that the RP5s are returned almost weekly after blowing out. Can anyone fill me in on the reliability of low priced monitors?

Cheap way to pc record multitrack?

Hi!

I have a simple question: I already have an M-Audio Fast Track Pro, and it has (as you may already know) S/PDIF in/outs. Would it be a good idea or not if I want to record like live drums, dj set, mics etc to get a Behringer ADA8000, and as it has optical in/outs I would have to get an M-Audio cO2 optical/coax converter...Would that make sense?

Getting recorded volume up on cheap portable recorder.

Situation: 4 guys talking around a table with a small mono tape casette recorder on the table using the built in mic. This is a teacher-student conference.

Results: Two guys come out with adequate volume, two don't.

Goal: Get all four people recorded with adequate volume.

How to expand a Digidesign system for more mic preamps cheap

Forums

If I purchased a Digidesign 002 or 003 unit (with or without control board), what would be the best way for me to have a 12 mic preamp setup for simultaneous recording. since the 002 and 003 units only have 4 mic preamps. I don't want to have to buy 3 003 units to do this. If that solution would even work.

Cheap DJ turntable for scribbling?

Alright, I've been looking at little DJ-type setups. Not really a turntable, as I have no records, but there are a few systems that you can import tracks to from a CD and there are knobs that look similar to records that make the scribbling sound, rewind, fastforward, and what have you. I don't know what I'm doing, really what I'm looking at are more toys than anything.

57's vs cheap condensers for overheads

Hello everyone. I'm going to be recording live drums for the first time in a couple of weeks and from the reading I've been doing on this forum I'm thinking 1 mic for the kick and 2 overheads to start out with. Right now all I have in my mic locker are 57's and 58's, 1 AT PRO 25, 1 AT PRO 37 and 1 AKG c3000b.

whats the cheapest way to have a CD in, XLR out - no PC?

I'm sorry if I've misplaced this thread, I actually had minor reservations about even placing it on this website (my first post... hello, hello, yes yes good to be here, glad to meet you.. hi . .) but this seemed the most appropriate place even though I don't plan on recording - per se. . .

Cheap Midi Keyboard as Controller?

I have a really crappy Casio midi keyboard, and I was wondering if I could use it as a controller for like... a plugin , or in my daw program, to say, turn on or off an effect or something.

I use plugins for live sound, and I have no way to change them in mid performance, and I dont have money to buy any midi controllers :p.

suggestions?
