Hi all,
I am relatively new to recording drums and I would be grateful if some of you could share your drum compression strategies.
In particular, I'd be interested to know if you use compression during tracking, and if yes on which mics and how you set up your compressors.
As a newbie, I would like to start a discussion on side-chaining low frequency instrument tracks, specifically the kick drum and bass guitar (or synth).
Can the pros comment on the
1 - Application of
2 - Theory behind
. having them be connected through some form of compression?
Thanks!
When compressing kick and snare, to you use the same ratio for both? Or Tweak them both separately? I do different genre's... so,hip hop, what would you do? rock? rap? classical? etc..
Just wondering, does anyone here ever use layers of compression on the same track? I find this really useful to get certain vocal tracks where I want them. Is that crazy? I should also mention that I only use software compression at the moment.
hello again...
I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across this or can explain to me why I am noticing this. I am mixing a pop country song. I have compressor plugs all over the place like on individual drums, drum buses, vocals, bass, etc. I also have compression at the main stereo bus and then a limiter also.
I have a question for the pros among you about mixing prior to mastering. I've been trying to find an answer and haven't been able to turn anything up. I've been working up the courage to post here for days, because I'm in awe of you guys and I know I'm an idiot by comparison. I hope this isn't too stupid...
Mod, please move if this belongs in a different forum. It is budget gear, but the principle still remains behind it. I am sure some other high-end pieces have the same option I am talking about.
I'm about to insert a compressor/limiter into my audio chain. Here is my current configuration choices:
U87/Senn416/RE20/Senn441->Fearn VT1/Daking MicPreOne->FireFace400->quad-core intel computer
I presume the compressor/limiter comes after the preamp, but that's not the real question.
