I'm doing a swap deal with a buddy where I'm getting rid of my 3630.
I use it only for live vocals where it does the job for me.
I have an RNC for recording but I prefer the 3630 live.
I know, go figure right?

So what is the deal with the RNC. Can a compressor this inexpensive really be any good? I have seen many of you mention it from time to time. What are you using it on and how much are you letting it work?

What do you guys think? Maybe it's too much to ask in the plug world, but I love Clearmountain sounding vocals...solid, in your face sound. I'm just not getting there. I am using CompressOrban k right now.

I have one on loan for a few days. Obviously I'm going to put it though it's paces and see what it's good on but I was wondering if anyone else has ever seen or used one. A studio I used to work at had one but there were so many other things that it never got used. What are they worth anyway? I checked Google.com and didn't come up with much of anything.

I once cut out some peices of paper, each with different words on them:

EQ
Compressor
De-Esser
Mic Pre
Mic

And droped them on a table in front of 4 very experienced engineers. It was funny the way they argued and scratched their heads as to 'the right order' for them. There was no uniform concensus at all.

Would 2 stereo linked 1176's (Purple or UA) sound good on a mix bus?

I have some nice tracking compressors (1176, Summit) but am using an FMR for stereo 2-bus. Not that it is bad but I would like to step up a notch. I'm mix to a Masterlink and do my own mastering (this is not professional just for my own enjoyment). So would I be better off getting a good analog compressor like the solid state Avalon or Smart or something like a Waves Maximizer L2?

And how do you use it? What general settings do you like..what styles of music call for different settings...etc etc...lets hear what you use folks

WHat compressor do you use when mixing to stereo?

Which would you prefere for program or overall mix compression before two track FMR RNC or Drawmer DL241? Why? Thanks
