please give you opinion on the matter, and if someone wants to put in a little extra, list the same for Eqs. 8-)

So I have the Avalon 737 and I've discovered that the compressor is a little weak. I currently use the UAD powered plugins (an LA-2A on every track) and the TC Powercore. They both have some pretty amazing plugins. But I'm wondering is there really a major difference between the hard and software ? UAD has the 1176 the Fairchild and tons on other classic gear.

Anytime I've heard or read something about home recording, Good preamps and compressors are highly recommended. Can anyone explain exactly what these effects do, and how they improve recordings so dramatically.

I'm trying to find some information on a pair of WSW compressors, I
just bought on eBay, but I haven't got much luck so far!
So I was hoping that maybe someone here, had some knowledge of these
and know were I can find some history and manual/schematics?

With the advent of software compressors, is it still wise to consider using analog compressors? I own a dbx DDP and use it as a analog compressor (going through the AD/DA converters). I have WAVES' Renaissance Compressor and really love it too. My question is, would it be worth purchasing another good compressor reguardless of its circuitry?

Any reviews opinions or info on the company would be appreciated.

My question is...what are some of the best compressors to use for tracking, mixing, or mastering? Out of these compressors which ones are worth buying? Behringer Tube Composer, ART Vla Pro, Avalon, Aphex, Jomeek, Dbx 160's, Focusrites, etc... If I didn't mention some great compressors...please name some :p .
