If I'm exporting files from Cubase at 24 bit and they were recorded at 16 bit, am i doing damage to the file?

The reason being I have some files at 24 bit and some files at 16 bit and would prefer to master at 24 bit obviously.

As you can see I'm somewhat of a beginner so take it easy please

i want to use itunes to convert aiff files (from Live 4.0) to mp3's so i can burn them.
my problem is that the converted mp3's are stretched out about 4x, and as cool as they sound, that's not what i want

can anybody help me on this?

I have a varimu and Massive Passive a Rosetta 800 and Big Ben and Masterlink.

What now? does anyone have any sugestions about rooms, monitors, and mastering processes using the gear that I have mentioned above.

The main studio is all analog into Alsesis HD24XR using TAC analog console for mixing and inserting analog gear during mixdown.

I have an orig MOTU 2408 with 20 bit A/D.
I would like to record into Cubase with 24bit
recording switched on.

Is it ok to use 20 bit A/D with 24 bit recording?
For ex, will I get any unwanted artifacts?

Hey everyone, I am new here currently deployed to the middle east (guess where) and leaving soon. I have been researching parts and what not for building my DAW when I get back. I am torn between buying a rackmount case, or a silent tower. What I have been looking for is some kind of kit to be able to mount a desktop tower in a rackmount space. Anyone around know of any solutions to this?

My multi track recorder prints SDII files so I often have to go beween SDII and aiff.

Does anyone care to share their experience with file conversion applications?
What are your favorites?
Does anyone hear any differences between the different formats?

Also, any opinions on what's the best way to go between interleaved and split stereo files?

Can someone help me understand. Which matters most?
The digital to analog converters or the bit resolution?
Mainly, going to CD or even CD-R.

How do you know that you are really recording at 24 bits? :roll:

Is there a way to check it?
