Anybody know if there is a way to convert sd2s to wav files than going out from a PT system and recording into another daw with, say, wavelab?

I know JAM should play sd2 files, can you convert w/ it as well?

This is slightly OT, more of a computer issue I'm having.

I'm looking to improve upon the UNimpressive converters within my Digi001. Someone suggested to me that I look into getting an external wordclock since I can't really afford to by an 8 channel converter (like the Apogee"rosetta"). Can someone please explain to me how clocking externally can audibly improve my rig during playback and record? At the moment I have a PreSonus Digimax (8ch.

I've read up about taking 24bit audio down to 16bit without loosing the sonic clarity of the original composision. My DAW software has the Apogee UV-22 algorithm included. Is this used or is there some other method? Or is this process considered as truncating or dithering? :w:

I recently converted some stuff done in Nuendo to MP3 "Pro" using Cool Edit Pro and it changed the pitch/tempo at various points in the song. Sounds like it slows down in the middle of the tune and then speeds up again before the end. Anybody got any ideas why this would happen and what I can do to fix it - this sucks? Here's a link to the song if you want to hear what I'm talking about.

I have a couple simple questions I have never gotten a good response on...

1. Should I normalize tracks after I record them. Back in the day I normalized everything and I think I got some pretty good results. I have heard that normalization can introduce unwanted noise, but personally haven't run into that situation yet. If not, when should you normalize?

I would like to know if there is a lot of quality difference between 48 and 96 hz and between 96 and 192 hz. Somebody help me!

I use PT Mix 5.1.1 with 2 ADAT bridges light piped to an 02R, mostly at 44.1k/24 bits. I know this is weird and hard to quantize, but assuming two different situations that I present below.. what are the advantages in each case, in terms of percentage:

a) PT MIX x PT HD both at 44.1k/24 bits
