I am the lucky owner of a pair of dbx 160VU compressors. It would be lovely to dispose of some more compressors like that for tracking drums.

Have anyone compared those units? Or even listened to it?

I love the ease of use of the dbx 160, and I love its sound on lots of things like drums, bass and guitars. Can I use them lightly on vocals as well?

I am recording from an AKG 1000s microphone into a dbx preamp. Also using a Kurzwel K2500.

What setting are needed on the various inputs and outputs on the back of the dbx preamp. there is achoice of dbV and dBu (-10 and =4)

in particular,

1. What is needed on the input from the Kurzweil?

Any of you mastering guys out there use the dbx Quantum, or Quantum 2? I was thinking about getting a Finalizer type of piece, and the dbx looks interesting.

Has anybody out there discovered seetings on the Trakker that are decent emulations of dbx compressors, and in particular the 160 VU?

I'd like to add some flavor and color to my synth rig by running them through a DI. The dbx and PreSonus boxes are both 2 ch units that could do the job. Anybody tried it? I know I could get an Aguilar DI for about the same dough but thats just a single ch. What's your opinions

Is the new 160A sound anything like the older models (X and UV)?

I was wandering... if it's possible to make a "console" from those dbx Channel Strips? I could have a whole bunch of those together... let's say, 16 of those... around $8000... that would be 16 channels with EQ and compressor, 96k digital outs... doesn't sound THAT bad to me... don't get me wrong... I don't even have all that money... that's just a thought... is this a ridiculous thought?
