so ive got a big job coming up where the main parts are going to be done on 3 different analog Korgs synths. my client is also going to be using an analog drum machine and a light sensitive therum. my question is, should i be using direct boxes on all of these?

I have a balladeer special with an OP30 preamp. I've heard ovations our great in the studio and was wondering do most people record these guitars directly or a combination of being mic'd and direct?

Hey I have a Line 6 Flextone II, which I record directly. Does anyone have experience with Line 6 direct recording? I'm in a dorm room in college so its kind of hard to record with my 57. But anyway is there anything special to recording direct out with line 6? Do you just simply plug it in and record? Because I feel like I'm not getting that good of a recording.

Any Favourites as far as budget boxes go, I have a couple of active and passive yorkville boxes that seem to very clean, also a Behringer one, which seems clean enough.

I have been seeing a lot of instrument specific boxes lately, for example, an acoustic DI, with built in exciter and eq, and a bass one with the same type of eqs.

At the moment I'm using a sta adc @ dca 2000 sound card and Adobe audition 1.5 but I can only record 8 tracks simutanously, ( as the sta only has 8 direct outs)so I have to subgroup toms, overheads to free up channels. I'm planning on up gradeing to Pro Tools LE via Digi 002R which also has only 8 direct outs. How do get more individual channels to my recording software?

my friend is trying to record clavinova hooked up directly to his computer (he is going straight into a standard sound card, nothing special here) he's getting the signal in cool edit, but he said when he plays loud he gets distortion, but the signal doesn't register as clipping in the software.

I've decided to not bother with the hassle of Micing my cabinet and would prefer to go direct. Would it work if I were to simply go:

Guitar -> Amp Head -> Mixing Board

Wondering if anyone has any tips on mic preamp's and direct boxes. specifically, if i can use a good mic preamp (tube perhaps) to function as a direct box as well, and vice versa.

I just got an Alesis HD24 to use for remote recording. One of the ways I want to use it is to record from the direct outs of my little A&H MixWiz when I'm doing live sound.

I'm looking to build a home studio just to mess around on and record demos or whatever. I'm looking to spend in the range of 2000-2500. I know its not a lot but I have no idea what i'm supposed to get. I"m going to be recording a band I know i need to be able to record more than 4 or 8 tracks at once. I'm just all confused on what I need.
