How a Mic Picks Up Distortion vs. What I Hear

Forums

This is somewhat relevant, but I'm looking to get an effects processor to sculpt a tone for use both in recording and live. In the past I had a processor with a tone I was quite happy with, it was full and heavy and worked with was I was doing, but when I tried recording said tone with a Shure SM58 it sounded muddy and cheap.

AKG Microphones Distortion

Forums

i bought in december 2 AKG mics (c 3000b & c 1000s) from a dude that's selling his whole gear (he plans to move in states) and i trust him he sold me a pair of Alesis m1 active mkII and a midi kb Fatar sl 880. BUT these 2 mics seem to distort everytime i work with a stronger voice (even thought in mixer gain is at the lowest level). I use a soundcraft spirit studio lc .

Static/Distortion when tracking

Hi,

When attempting to track into Reaper with an SM57 through an Echo AudioFire4 interface, anything I play is completely distorted and fuzzy.

The levels during recording look fine.

This seems to happen only when the device is set to ASIO. When it's set to WaveOut, I don't have the problem.

I have all the latest drivers installed.

Any ideas?

GT Brick problem? sounds distorted and crackly!

Ive been trying to troubleshoot a scratchy distorted sound that comes and goes in my signal chain. I have a strong feeling that its coming from my GT brick since Ive pretty much replaced/ruled everything else out. It makes my signal weak..(both mic and instrument in) and scratchy and then its normal for a second and then its scratchy and weak again. Its pretty frustrating as u can imagine.

Help i'm being attacked by digital distortion

OK first of all my set up is a Tascam us-122 and my onboard sound card realtek 97 using the asio4all driver. ok so I start recording or playback and after a few minutes (it varies) I start to get digital distortion, at which point I go to preferences change the driver to someting other then asio4all then back to asio4all (if that makes sense) and the distortion goes away for a few minutes.

Mixing MIDI drums: clipping/distortion.

I'm currently working on a music project in Garageband [yes, not the best DAW, but I'm comfortable with it, and I can't afford high-end DAWs]; while I think I'm able to mix most audio fairly well, I'm still having trouble with drum mixing. I'm using Addictive Drums for the drum input; while I'm able to "record" the MIDI tracks the way I want, I'm having trouble mixing them.
