Is it considered a valid option to track heavy and distorted guitars clean, leaving the option to choose a sound at a later date?
Say for example you've got the riff off to a tee, but you can't find the sound
straight the way.

Hi. I am mixing in Pro Tools. I have the Waves Platinum bundle and the Digi plugins, that's all. I am using an mbox so I can't send to an outboard box. I'd like to put a light vocal distortion on one song (ie Yeah Yeah Yeahs). Is there a suggestion as to how I can do this using what I've got? Thanks a bunch.-J

I had a session today, and for some strange reason I'm getting a distorted
sound, when I would record vocals, and it gets to a loud part, even though I put the M-box set on "Line". I'm not seeing any distortion on the meters, but

I'm getting ready to record guitars and I have a potential problem. I'm not using a room mic but only 2 (MD421, and SM57) mics on the 4x12 cabinet right on the cones (one offset) and the other pointed at the center cone. My space isn't but so big, about 22x12, and we are currently rehearsing in the space as well.

I have just released two new kinds of windows VST distortion plugins: RetroBand and RetroBandLite. The other is free, the other very cheap, and they both can make things sound damn good (but don't take it from me, have a listen and try yourself).

I'm working on a full length with a singer who sings very loud. the problem i am having is that i can not find a proper setting on my Focusrite isa 430 mk2. he sings with a lot of dynamic changes in his voice.

I'm workin with this singer who singers very loud. there are many dynamic changes in his songs. i use the pre (Focusrite isa 430) just for compression because his voice needs no preamp at all supprisingly. the problem is i can not seem to find a setting for his vocals. when he hits the loud notes it distorts and since he goes from loud to soft there is that pumping dropping out sound.

I have recently purchased a Rane Parametric EQ (PEQ55) for use in my live rig.
I am a guitarist, so here's the rig (pretty simple).

Guitar (EMG actives) --> Morely Tripler, with boost (for raising signal level) --> Rane PEQ --> Mesa Mark II.
