Classic Recording Gear and Methods
Chris's thread on Mojave mics - and especially his link to a youtube video of a jazz trio recording with these mics - sparked an idea in me, and that was to research the classic recorded jazz era - from around 1956 - 1965.
Popular jazz artists during this era were people like Dave Brubeck, Vince Guaraldi, Stan Getz, Ella Fitzgerald, John Coltrane, etc.

Performance vs. gear vs. skills, once and for all !
I didn't want to step on anybody's thread but I just read one on which someone said ; gear doesn't make good recording, performance does.
I just have enough of those 'What's the most important thing' threads.
So lets just discuss it once and stop the future arguments!
The Great Gear List - my past and present
I thought this would be fun to read and reminisce our past to present evolution of gear that passed through our hands.
I'm cringing at the thought of trying to remember it all in one pass, so I'll be updating mine post every week or so until its done to detail, or I am done.
I think I'll add up the cost of this party at the end too. :coffee:

vintage studio gear search
Guys...
I'm searching for a piece of gear that I used a million years ago (okay, maybe not quite a million, but close...1977 or so LOL)... This was a mic preamp, compressor, EQ, all rolled into one. I can't for the life of me remember the manufacturer and I've scoured google and ebay for it, to no avail.

Gear suggestion...
I having been recording guitar with two sm57's through an audiobox 22vsl with Audacity. For voice I have been using a RODE NT1-A. I have around 600 dollars to spend, and am interesting in simply increasing the sound quality and clarity of my recordings, especially for voice.

The weird gear we love
Hey all I just wanted to start a fun thread about some of the more off the wall gear we've used in the past and got great results from. Could be old pro stuff or whatever, but I'm constantly rigging stuff up to get different sounds or try something new to get new sounds in my recordings.

Gain Staging with High-End Gear
Hello everyone,
Can't seem to get a straight forward answer about gain staging with high-end gear . I'm using all transformer coupled preamps, API's and Dakings going into Apogee Symphony Converters. Up until then my recording peak levels into Cubase was anywhere from -20db to -12db on a full scale.
