needing a home studio critique

Submitted by awcastellano on Fri, 05/20/2011 - 08:43

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I tried to start recording maybe a year ago then got real busy with school and put it aside. With summer coming I'm trying to get back into it. I bought some gear on a whim last year after some quick research and now that I'm coming back to it I thought it would be good to ask you guys to review my gear.

Home studio troubles

Hey everyone! I have been trying for some time now to set up a home studio. I started with a laptop running Vista 32bit with a Intel duo core processor and 3 gigs of RAM running Cakewalk Sonar Home Studio 7. I still have not been able to get Cakewalk to operate on that system without dropouts and glitches in the audio.

Recording opera vocals in tiny home studio - mic & placement suggestions

I know, you're supposed to record opera singers in acoustically perfect concert halls, but I'm on a budget and all I have is my 8 x 10 home studio which doubles as both a control room and a live room. My goal is to record live vocals over pre-recorded orchestra karaoke tracks to famous soprano arias.

Hi there,

I am session musician looking to record and produce my own side-project, a full 5 piece heavy rock-band comprising drummer, rhythm guitarist, lead guitarist, bassist and singer.

We've got two fairly big rooms to play with, but we need some assistance choosing the gear, setting it all up and getting to grips with it all.

Here are a few details for you.

Hi guys,
I would appreciate if I could get some help. :P
I am interested in setting up a home studio because I plan on recording an album and since I work as a songwriter primarily I feel this would be a decent investment I could "build upon". But for the time being I am looking for a solution that won't run me into the ground with costs.

Starting a home studio bit of help with interface usage. Thanks

Hey, I am by no means new to the recording of music. I have however been away from it for a few years.

I was wondering, to record into logic i am more than aware i need an interface. Can i just get a jack like rack mount interface and use XLR to jack cables and record straight into Logic? Or, do i need a mixing desk for the mics to go into that then goes into the interface?

I am recently attempting to building my bedroom studio to record mainly vocal and acoustic guitar. The path of bedroom studio seems hard to me at this moment, but I believe it will go smoothly the more I learn :)
Back to the topic, in order to start the bedroom studio, I have already bought 2 equipments which is:
AI: M-Audio ProFire 610
Mic: RODE NT1-A
