Mixing Brass, among others
I am currently involved in a project where I am taking some tracks already recorded, mixing them and redubbing guitars, bass, and vox. My main challenge right now is how to mix, compress, eq, etc. the brass and woodwind instruments.

Mixing Drums when tracked using 3 mic technique
I am looking for some advice when mixing drums using the 3 mic method regarding eq, grouping and general mixing techniques. I am challanged with getting the drums to have impact in the mix.
Eg. I want a little more air and I get a raging hi hat. I want to have a stronger kick and things get muddy or the bass looses impact.

Mixing Tips
ok, I basically halted where I was at mix wise cause I didn't really know what the hell I was doing :) ..I went to a whole load of sites and read all kinds of tutorials on mixing and eqing, these are just a few things I can remember offhand. It'd be great if you guys could give your input on these and offer some of your own tips, rules of thumb, or tricks.

mixing faux pas (excuse my French)
I think the biggest mistake novice mixers commit is soloing each instrument and eqing it to make it sound good on its own, and then bringing everything up and expecting it to sound great!
What, in your opinion is the biggest faux pas made by budding engineers when it comes to mixing? Kurt

mixing a bad arrangement.
I am just starting a full time carrer as a recording engineer, in my own studio, and for others in the area as well. Currently my market has been low level bands. A lot of the stuff is poorly arranged, chord voicings, one part stepping on another, etc.
I sometimes spend more time than I should to tweak stuff, just cuz I don't want crap with my name on it.
